"l'Origine de Maestricht", Maastricht. Underground network of man-made sandstone or locally called "mergel" tunnels carved for cementerie and building. The "mergel" is a prehistoric seabed where Maastricht is build on and so this painting's title refers to Gustave Courbet's vagina painting "l'Origine du Monde". During my childhood I used to go at least every year for a visit with my parents and of course with a guide because without a lamp and guide you get totally lost as it is pitch dark overthere. You cannot even see your hand when holding it in front of your eyes.
